"Some Kind of Blue"

A passion of mine is painting. It is a powerful tool for healing. I have survived many traumatic things in life and throughout it all, drawing and painting were my escape. Even now, after my time in the military, I use art to cope with the scars. Blue is such an emotionally deep color. It has always resonated with me. From the beautiful New Mexico skies, the indigo Rocky Mountains in the horizon, and the deepest blue seas that I've sailed across, blue has been there to remind me that there is peace and serenity if we just breathe. Breathing deeply with our eyes closed helps us find that safe space within to reconnect, and re ground ourselves out of the whirlwind of being overwhelmed. This space is sacred. Just breathe. Painting takes patience. It's tedious but rewarding work. It allows me to breathe deeply. I hear my breath. I feel it. And I am aware. The awareness allows me the control to feel and use my brush as an extension of my body. To feel the smooth glide of paint over canvas is poetry in motion; a poem of color and expression. It is a powerful tool for navigating and understanding not only ourselves, but life and our purpose within it.
